A bit about Haute Rive

If you're wondering, Haute Rive in Mauritius lies up on the northeastern coast of the island. A small region which pokes out into the shimmering Indian Ocean like a mouse emerging from it's nest.

If you're searching for a quieter place to spend your island escape then you're looking at it.

Things to do in Haute Rive

Located in the Rivière du Rempart district of the island, Haute Rive Mauritius is a quiet and secluded spot shrouded be emerald tropical forests which belie an incredible stretch of coastline. However, you can also find culture, great food and unique experiences here if you know where to look.

Pristine beaches

Around 3km south of Haute Rive lies Roches Noires where, unsurprinsingly, you'll find Roches Noires beach. The large volcanic rocks here protect the beach and help keep the sand soft and the azure waters calm. Elsewhere, if you carry on your southerly trajectory you'll soon come to the next resort town Poste Lafayette. Here another imaginitively named stretch of sand, Poste Lafayette beach, welcomes you with warm waters and a host of water sport options. Both beaches are perfect for having a swim or just kicking back in the sand.

Submarine sojourn

The main attraction in Haute Rive, without doubt, lies beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean. As with many parts of the island, the ocean waters which caress the white sands beaches here are teeming with life. When you head out to any of those beautiful beaches, make sure you pack your snorkel. Id you're interested in diving, head out on a boat trip with one of the local tour operators.

Culture vultures

If you're interested in finding out more about Haute Rive and Mauritius in general, then a trip north to Pointes des Lascars Hindu Spiritual Park is perfect for discovering the influence of Hinduism - the most followed religion on the island. On a tour of the sacred site you'll hear more about the religion in Mauritius, check out the impressive Ganesha temple, and have the chance to wander through the tranquil gardens where birds, plants and other flora and fauna are prevalent.

Out and about

If you're looking for more adventure than lounging on the beach or exploring the ocean depths, then you might want to think about exploring more of the Rivière du Rempart district. The popular resort town of Grand Baie and its neighbouring city Cap Malheureux lie just a 30-minute drive away from the village. Here you'll find more mouth-watering restaurants, exciting boutiques and unique sights.
