A bit about Belle Mare
Home to one of the best beaches in Mauritius this picture-perfect enclave juts out into the Indian Ocean like a mouse emerging form it's burrow.
Things to do in Belle Mare
Whether you fancy kicking back on the glistening white sand with a good book in hand listening to the rhythm of the azure ocean as it gently lilts on the shore, or you prefer getting out and experiencing everything a destination has to offer. You can find all of it in the small town of Belle Mare.
Beaches in Belle Mare
One incredible benefit to choosing Belle Mare for your Mauritian escape is, you'll be super close to Belle Mare Beach. Widely regarded as one of the very best beaches on the island, this stretch of sand attracts locals and tourists alike over the weekends. However, if you fancy a journey to a new spot then the quaint Palmar Beach rests just under a mile away in the neighbouring town of the same name or you could travel further and take your tanning to Bras d'Eau Beach after a stroll around the beautiful Bras d'Eau National Park in picturesque Poste Lafayette.
Exquisite eateries
Belle Mare has its fair share of stunning resorts with high-end restaurants waiting to sate your every hunger pang. However, if you take a journey into the town for lunch or dinner, you'll find a similarly well-prepped line-up. From sophisticated spots like Hasu and The Plantation to more rustic, traditional offerings at Sun and Sand Chez Charlene or Seasons Restaurant & Bar, you'll find a dish to match any craving.
Swing when your winning
Mauritius's love affair with golf is a long and happy one. But being centered in Belle Mare you'll have abundant options to work on your game while you're away. Travel 10 minutes by car either north or south of the town and you'll greeted by no less than 4 courses. The Links to the north poses a pretty challenge for your game, meanwhile the Île aux Cerfs course set out on an island just off the mainland near Grand River South East may pose equal difficulties, having been designed by the great Bernard Langer.
Family fun
If you want more from your family escape than just great beaches and eats, then you'll love having facilities like Splash N Fun Leisure Park and Aquacity on your doorstep too. The former allows your little ones to go whizzing along on winding water slides, while the latter is more ocean-based fun. Why not let your older kids have a go at undersea walking? They can don an astronaut-esque helmet and literally stroll along the ocean bed.
Elegant artistry
As you can probably tell, there is a lot of fun packed into this small east coast package. But away from the abundant beaches, water sports and restaurants you can also get closer to art in the town. Art 28 is a locally ran gallery which celebrates the works of Mauritian artists. Journey to the gallery in Quatre Cocos and marvel at the works hanging in the halls or commission your own piece to be created while you're on the island.
