A bit about Bel Ombre
Down on the south coast of Mauritius Bel Ombre offers the possibility of an enchanting escape where it's just you, nature and the warming tropical sun. Sounds good, right?
Things to do in Bel Ombre
The stunning scenery and oceans of green space around Bel Ombre make it a haven for eco-adventurers seeking a new spot for sun.
Step on to the sand
You might think that all that greenery means a lack of sand, but nothing could further from the truth. In fact, the Bel Ombre beach selection might well be the finest in the country. With special spots like La Prairie Beach, Le Morne Beach, St Felix Beach, Riambel Beach and Telfair Beach all on offer, you won't be shy of sunny, sandy spaces to recline.
From the beach to the hills
Like so much of the island, this south-west coast destination places the beauty of nature at the centre of its charm. The beautiful village of Bel Ombre offers a shimmering lagoon and white sand beaches on one side, while the sprawling 1,300 hectare Frédérica Nature Reserve provides a fittingly verdant backdrop and a hub for island activities. Excursion highlights in the reserve include jungle safaris and trekking up to the top of Le Morne Brabant, a peninsula and renowned UNESCO site jutting out of the very southwestern tip of the island.
National Perks
Speaking of nature reserves, one of the best excursions in Mauritius is a visit to the incredible Black River Gorges National Park. Another stunning home to a wealth of nature, the park is something of a natural phenomenon boasting many different climates all located in its 6,754 hectare site. With boundless flora and fauna, majestic waterfalls and a selection of hiking trails taking a stroll around this park is a must.
Stunning resorts
Although Bel Ombre is one of the most beautiful areas in Mauritius, there are still only a handful of high-resorts calling the gleaming coastline home. So if you want to escape the bulk of the tourists and capture more of a natural feel on your luxurious escape, then this tiny stretch of south-western Mauritius is ideal.
