Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Colombo
- Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, where you’ll be met by your chauffeur and transferred to Colombo (approx. 1 hour).
- After checking-in to the 4* Sofia Hotel (or similar), the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore at your own pace.
Day 2 - Colombo to Dambulla
- After breakfast, enjoy a panoramic tour of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s vibrant capital. Discover a fascinating mix of colonial landmarks and modern architecture influenced by a blend of cultures.
- Continue to Ridi Viharaya (Silver Temple), a beautiful and historic Buddhist temple dating back to the 2nd century.
- Later, travel to Dambulla and check in to the 4* Tropical Life Resort (or similar). Unwind with dinner and enjoy a restful evening.
Day 3 – Sigiriya & Minneriya National Park
- Start early with a visit to the iconic Sigiriya (Lion Rock). Climb this dramatic rock fortress and be rewarded with breathtaking views and fascinating stories of its ancient past.
- In the afternoon, head out on a game drive in Minneriya National Park, famous for its large elephant gatherings, as well as diverse wildlife and birdlife around its vast reservoir.
- Return to your hotel, with optional time to relax or join a local village experience (£).
Day 4 - Kandy
- Travel to Kandy, stopping en route at a spice garden in Matale to learn about Sri Lanka’s renowned spices.
- In Kandy, visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, home to country’s most sacred relic — a tooth believed to belong to the Buddha. Later, enjoy a lively Kandyan cultural dance performance.
- Stay the night at the 4* Topaz Hotel (or similar). Perched on the city’s highest peak, the hotel offers breathtaking views, warm hospitality and lavish comforts.
Day 5 - Nuwara Eliya
- Embark on a scenic train ride to Nanu Oya*, one of Sri Lanka’s most picturesque journeys, winding through tea plantations and misty mountains. Continue to Nuwara Eliya, a charming highland town with a distinct colonial feel.
- In the evening, visit the Single Tree Temple and enjoy a short hike with panoramic views over tea-covered hills.
- Stay overnight in the historic Mirage Kings Cottage (or similar), overlooking the placid waters of Lake Gregory
Day 6 – Tea Country to the Coast
- Visit a tea estate to see how world-famous Ceylon tea is produced, with the chance to sample it fresh.
- Then journey south toward the coast, stopping at the iconic Nine Arch Bridge in Ella for photos amid lush surroundings.
- Continue to Mermaid Hotel & Club for the next part of your adventure.
Day 7 - 13 - Mermaid Hotel & Club
- Nestled in the historic coastal village of Kalutara the hotel boasts warm hospitality, a relaxed atmosphere and a range of recreational activities, perfect if you're looking to slow down the pace and soak up the sun after your tour.
- If you're sill looking to uncover more of Sri Lanka, then Mermaid Hotel & Club's location make it an ideal base for exploration.
- After your 7-night stay, it's time to transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport and begin our journey home.
*In the event that train services are suspended or tickets are unavailable, the journey between Kandy and Nanu Oya will be completed by private vehicle.
