Is The Maldives Good For A Honeymoon? We Sent Fabulous Faye Lewis To Find Out
Is the Maldives good for a honeymoon? It’s probably one of the most luxurious honeymoon destinations in the world. But what makes the Maldives such a popular choice and what happens there during your romantic escape? We’ve sent a special guest to find out.
Spending the days after your wedding blissfully kicking back on a paradise island, gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes or out over an azure lagoon. There are worse ways to start married life together, right?
But is the Maldives good for a honeymoon? Would you be bored? Are there any special inclusions to look forward to?
Luckily, the beautiful Faye Alicia Lewis got married recently and we whisked her & new husband Iwan away to paradise to answer all these questions (and more). Over to Faye for all the deets.
So, Is The Maldives Good For A Honeymoon?
You cannot go wrong with a honeymoon in the Maldives!
Not only is there something to do for every type of couple but it’s pure magic. You’re in heaven and to me it’s one of the most romantic destinations you could choose!
Plus, when you’re there living the place, it feels like you’re in absolute paradise every second of every day… A truly once-in-a-lifetime trip!
Where To Stay On a Maldives Honeymoon?
We stayed at the incredible Cocogiri Island Resort. It’s a beautiful 5-star resort on the Vaavu Atoll. This is one of the least inhabited atolls in the Maldives archipelago and that really helped us feel like we had the island to ourselves.
Cocogiri features a restaurant, bar, ocean-facing pool, a fitness centre (which we did try to make use of) and a luxurious spa (which we definitely made use of).
After our arrival, we were welcomed by the incredibly warm and engaging team. The staff pulled out all the stops. Whether it’s friendly conversations, advice on excursions to do (or not do, weather dependent), or creating beautiful honeymoon memories for us.
It was their attention to detail that made the trip so special. In addition, a huge plus was that we arrived to a bottle of champagne in our room.
Should You Upgrade To A Honeymoon Suite?
Luckily, we didn’t need to decide between a beach or a water villa. We stayed in a Beach Villa initially, which feels like one of the best suites on the island as it benefits from its own private beach. That was an incredible space and landscape to wake up to each morning.
However, the general manager, Tina, gave us an upgrade to a Pool Jacuzzi Water Villa. These are the best accommodations on the island and are completely breathtaking.
Placed in the middle of the ocean, you have the unique opportunity to catch the sun rising and setting over the water.
The start and end of the day in the Maldives is pretty spectacular. The colours that fill the sky when the sun rises or sets are simply wondrous. We’re super glad we chose The Maldives over Mauritius – although the beaches there are pretty spectacular, but nothing compared to those sunny shows every day.
What Is There To Do On Honeymoon In The Maldives?
You can try a whole host of excursions and activities. I’d recommend having a go at as much as you possibly can. We tried everything, including:
- Scuba diving
- Snorkelling with sharks
- Feeding the stingray
- Night fishing
- Private dinners on the beach
- Island hopping
What Was Your Favourite Honeymoon Activity?
I love the private dinner on the beach. It feels so special and (again) the staff are amazing. You are shown to your table across the beach by the resort team, they have torches on the sand to ensure you don’t trip up or step on anything.
Then you get to the wooden jetty to the dining area and it’s all lit with mood lighting. The food is delicious, the landscape is to die for and the company was great too (of course).
What Was Your Favourite Meal & Drink?
Speaking of delicious food, my favourite meal was always the evening one. Because you have the chance to indulge in every taste available, including the cocktail menu!
Although there is one restaurant, you won’t get bored of the offering. Every day there was such a vast selection of delicacies to choose from we were utterly spoilt. Plus, the themed nights add more variety, so you’re not eating the same elements every day.
My favourite drink was the pina colada. I only had one the entire trip but it was just delicious!
