When is The Best Time to Visit Jamaica?

While sunshine graces Jamaica almost all year round, December – April is definitely the best time to go. Offering warm dry weather the temperatures around this time of the year regularly tip into the 30s. However, those balmy temps are also accompanied by higher prices due to demand.

If those increased costs are a problem for you, we recommend checking out the ‘shoulder seasons’ from mid-April – July and November – mid-December. These periods do mean cooler weather but significant cost savings.

What about the times in between those we just mentioned? Well, late summer to October can be super budget-friendly. This is chiefly because this period falls within hurricane season. However, the chances of actually catching a hurricane during your stay are still extremely slim. Known as low-season, due to increased rainfall, this is a great period for scoring the tropical adventure of your dreams without breaking the bank.

More About the Seasons in Jamaica

Being a tropical paradise nestled near the tropics, Jamaica doesn’t really subscribe to the conventional four seasons experienced by many parts of the world. Instead, this Caribbean jewel operates primarily under two ‘seasons’: a dry season and a rainy season.

Dry Season in Jamaica: December – May

As we mentioned earlier, this period is widely regarded as the best time for beach holidays or honeymoons in Jamaica due to comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall. During these months, you can chill out on sandy beaches under bright skies and frolic in warm turquoise waters.

Surfers love this period too! December until March offers some of the best surf conditions around the island. So, you could either catch waves yourself or admire the professionals hanging ten.

Rainy Season in Jamaica: June – November

Now that we know what happens in the dry season, is the rainy season that much different? Well, the simple answer is, that it depends on what you’re into.

From June – November, contrary to what one might think, visibility underwater improves significantly because rain reduces silt run-off into the sea. So if you’re a keen snorkeller or diver, you might find that the water during this time is perfect for you.
