More Than Double Your Days off in 2023 With This Annual Leave Hack
It’s a brand new year and that can only mean one thing… holidays! But did you know you can turn 19 days off into 48 with this annual leave 2023 hack?
With simple planning and enough notice, you could actually turn 19 days of annual leave into 48 holidays in 2023. And we all love getting more for less, right? There’s also the small historical matter of the King’s coronation this year which has added to that tally.
In this blog, we’ll tell you how to plot out your diary in an effort to make the most of the extended escapes. Meaning you can holiday-up your diary and get your annual leave requests in before someone beats you to it. Probably Jean in accounts… we see you Jean.
But, before we get into this we should probably mention that this annual leave hacking is only going to work if you have bank holidays included in your annual leave. Unfortunately, if you have to work on bank holidays then you may have to find another way to more than double your leave.
That being said, let’s take a look at the list of bank holidays in 2023.
Bank Holiday Bonanza
What are the dates to know about in 2023 if you work Monday – Friday?
- January: New Year’s Day, Monday 2
- April: Good Friday, Friday 7 | Easter Monday, Monday 10
- May: May Day Bank Holiday, Monday 1 | King Charles III’s coronation, Monday 8 | Spring Bank Holiday, Monday 29
- August: Summer Bank Holiday, Monday 28
- December: Boxing Day, Tuesday 26t
Make The Most Of Them
January
It may be a little late in the day for this one. However, if you didn’t fancy trudging back into the office on January 3, then booking from 3-6 off would’ve got you 9 days off for the price of four.
As we say, this has probably come too late for most so we won’t count it in the overall annual leave or holiday numbers. But it does serve as a good example of what we’re trying to achieve here.
April
Here’s where your annual leave really comes to play. You can knock out 10 days in April by booking just 4 days off. Perfect for logging some serious “you” time and getting a cheeky break on the books.
Because we get the 7th and 10th as bank holidays, if you get 3 – 6 April in your diary you’ll be able to snag a decent 10-night escape without having to surrender all your leave allocation.

May
With an additional holiday for the King’s coronation, here’s where you make up for lost time in January. Book from May 2 -5 off and you would be banking another 10 days’ leave for the price of 4. God save the King!
In addition, if you then back that break up with a request from May 20 – June 2 you can add another 9 days onto your non-grafting tally. That would easily be 19 days off in May/June. You’ll be barely in the office at the start of summer – perfect for getting some family BBQs on the books.
August
It’s the same deal in August in terms of time off. Book from Tuesday August 29 – September 1 and you’ll get another nine days away for the price of four. That give you plenty of time to decide between a city break or beach escape.
December
Unlike in previous years, Christmas Day falls in the week this year, so there’s no two-day bank holiday, unfortunately. But there’s no reason why you shouldn’t still make the time you have work harder for you.
Book from 27 – 29 and you’ll form a nice little 10-day break over the holidays. What could be better than spending more time with the family over Christmas? – on second thought, you might want to avoid this one, depending on how you feel about you extended fam.
