Government Unveils New Tool Which Simplifies COVID Requirements For UK Travel Abroad

The Government has announced a new tool which aims to simplify the process of travelling to and from the UK during COVID.

As the requirements for fully vaccinated travellers needing negative COVID tests to be allowed re-entry to England come to an end, the Government has announced a new function that tells passengers what they need to have for UK travel abroad.

Aimed at simplifying the process of going on holiday, ahead of the busy half-term period, the tool will allow travellers to enter their destination and find out what they need to have in order to enter a country.

What can it do?

The new online tool begins by asking the user which destination they’re travelling to before seeking confirmation around travel plans and vaccination status.

From here users will then be linked through to a screen which shows destination information, entry requirements and details for entry back into the UK.

In addition, would-be travellers can use the function to see:

  • Where to find entry requirements for a country you’re going to or travelling through
  • What you need to do before and after you return to England
  • Tests that need to be taken and when
  • Necessary steps for children
  • Any rule exemptions
  • Whether a country you’re going to or travelling through is on the red list

Travel boom

Many, including Travel Agents and Tour Operators, will see the tool as a welcome piece of simplification which comes at a time when Brits are aiming to take to the skies again.

Following on from the latest easing of UK travel abroad restrictions, many have taken the opportunity to get back to holidaying in the dazzling destinations they’ve missed.

That pent-up demand which industry insiders predicted would come as a result of the ending of UK restrictions reared its head in January. With many businesses boasting record high booking numbers at the start of the new year.
