TRS Yucatan Review: Everything You Need To Know About This Luxury Resort

It certainly sounds like complete luxury, but my TRS Yucatan review reveals what it’s really like to stay at a 5* all-inclusive adults-only resort on the Riviera Maya in Mexico.

I’m Sophie, a travel-lover who has visited many places across the Caribbean, Americas and Europe. Through my role at Blue Bay, I have been able to feed that passion for travel by exploring even more places.

But right now, I’m using this knowledge to give you my honest TRS Yucatan review. TRS Yucatan Hotel in Riviera Maya is proving to be a super-popular resort right now. So, following my husband and my recent stay, I wanted to bring you a first-hand experience of what you can expect when you touch down in Mexico

Read on for more info on what this tropical paradise is like, what to do when you’re there, and how to save more on your stay!

First, though, where exactly is it?

Where is TRS Yucatan Hotel?

The TRS Yucatan Hotel is situated approximately 55 miles south of Cancun along the East coast of Quintana Roo in Riviera Maya. Which is widely regarded as one of the best holiday destinations in Mexico.

It took us approximately 9 and a half hours to fly direct from Manchester to Cancun International Airport. After a reasonable transfer time of 75 minutes, we were checking in and lapping up the luxury in no time at all!

Our mode of transport from the airport to the resort was a shared shuttle transfer. This purely came down to cost, but it was also nice to take a sneaky peak at some of the other passengers’ resorts.

The transfer didn’t take as long as we had expected, but we were surprised and a little bit worried about the lack of shops, bars and restaurants surrounding the area. After all, we’d never done a holiday like this before, so we didn’t really know what to expect

Arriving at TRS Yucatan

On arrival, you’re greeted with a huge colonial-style entrance. A huge “Palladium Resorts” sign is posted above it, with all the nearby Grand Palladium resorts listed.

To be clear, the hotel is part of a larger resort complex made up of 3 other resorts from the Grand Palladium group. They are:

  • Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa
  • Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa (and family section)
  • Grand Palladium Colonial

All-inclusive guests from each resort can explore the facilities at the other venues. However, TRS facilities are exclusive to TRS guests. So you can explore everyone else’s resort amenities but only TRS guests are allowed in your hotel. Don’t you just love that?

What’s the Entrance and Lobby Area Like?

You’ll notice the entrance is directly off the main highway. When I say there’s nothing outside the hotel, there really isn’t.

So, perhaps think again if you’re searching for local culture, boutique shopping and evening meals out. Having said that, you can arrange excursions to these places if you wish, but more on that to follow.

In the TRS Yucatan lobby, you’re immediately blown away by its grandeur. Not only that but you’re greeted by several inviting and friendly faces. We were led inside, while the staff brought our luggage in and assisted us with check-in, then it was time to get our wristbands fitted. These also act as your room key so it’s super important you don’t lose or remove them!

We were warmly welcomed with a glass of champagne and a hot towel to freshen up. Our first little taste of luxury… and this was just the start of it!

What Are The Rooms Like At TRS Yucatan?

Once checked in, our designated butler escorted us and our luggage to one of the in-resort golf buggies to take us to our villa. The blocks of rooms are known as villas at the TRS Yucatan (which can be somewhat confusing, as they’re not what you’d usually associate with villas). But go with it.

We were driven through the resort, past the restaurants, swimming pools and mangroves which have been maintained to provide a safe and natural habitat for wildlife. Think of it as a guided whistle-stop resort tour (great if you like to get your bearings as quickly as possible).

We were staying on the right of the resort in-villa number 68 which faces the infinity pool and sparkling Caribbean Sea. To our surprise, our suite wasn’t just a suite, it was a Junior Suite Poolside Ocean View Suite.

You could see and hear the sea from our balcony and it was truly magical.

Additional Touches in the Room

Before arrival, you’re provided with a wish list covering things like your preferred pillow type, favourite spirits and mixers, and what scent you’d like your room to smell of.

Our minds were blown that something like this was even a thing. But we went with it and, sure enough, the things we’d requested were waiting for us in our Suite.

It just kept getting better and better. We’ve only been here 10 minutes and I already don’t want to leave!

Our butler brought our bags up, explained the ins and outs of how to use the app service via the television, and also advised us on how to book tables at the restaurants. But, honestly, I don’t really remember anything else that was said because I was so utterly in shock at how amazing this place was. It really felt like we were living in a dream.

I know I’m jumping ahead a bit here, but while I’m on the topic of room types, it’s probably worth noting that we upgraded our room for the final 3 nights of our 10-night stay.

Upgrading your room at TRS Yucatan

We upgraded to a Junior Suite with a Private Pool and Garden View and, let me tell you, it was EVERYTHING.

Our little slice of paradise with a heated pool, in total seclusion along with a beautiful setting with the mangroves just opposite. The suite layout was virtually the same as the Junior Suite Poolside Ocean View, minus the whirlpool bath.

Although we only used the private pool a handful of times, it really made our stay that extra little bit more luxurious. We’d recommend anyone to go for this room type.

What Is There to Do At The TRS Yucatan?

The rooms are amazing. The staff can’t do enough for you. But what else is there to do apart from ordering room service, lying on a lounger and soaking up the sun?

I’ve tried to distill the 6 best activities here:

  1. 8 swimming pools
  2. Daily activities/entertainment
  3. Wildlife watching
  4. Beach days
  5. Have a spa day
  6. Watch the cabaret show

Let’s explore those awesome activities in more detail.

1. Take A Dip In One Of The 8 Swimming Pools

There are so many swimming pools to choose from including the iconic multi-level infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. This is the place to be if you prefer to lounge around all day on a beach cabana bed, sipping a cocktail or three from the pool bar, and listen to Ibiza ‘chill out’ music with the noise of the waves crashing in the background.

2. Daily Entertainment

I’ll be honest, we’re not really the ‘getting involved in daily entertainment’ type of people, but if you are then rest assured that there’s plenty for you to get involved in.

There’s aqua-aerobics, underwater spin classes, pool yoga, or you could head down to the beach and try your hand at some of the non-motorized water sports that are included in your stay. Kayaking, paddle-boarding and catamaran sailing to name but a few.

3. Watch The Wildlife

I’ll be honest, I took some persuading to walk through the mangroves. And I don’t want to put you off, but I’m petrified of snakes. And, while I love learning about native wildlife and their habitats, there was something about that pathway that didn’t sit right with me.

Rest assured that I didn’t see any snakes or creepy crawlies. But, like most tropical destinations, they do exist. And that was enough for me. However, on a more positive note, to have something like this quite literally on your doorstep is truly fascinating and you get to know the ‘locals’ real quick.

A Native Mexican Spinytail Iguana Basking By Las Rocas Pool

Beware! There are things lurking in the bushes or basking on the rocks. Usually racoons, Mexican Spinytail Iguanas and, more often than not, Coatis!

I’d never heard of a Coati before but after being ambushed by around 20 of these cute things whilst sat drinking a margarita by the Secret Pool, you get to know them fast. They came out of nowhere, just a small rustle in the trees behind and there they were! The cheekiness and brutal disregard for anyone or anything is entertaining but somewhat terrifying.

4. Spend The Day At The Beach

It’s worth noting that there isn’t a beach directly attached to the hotel. However, there is an exclusive stretch of sand allocated for TRS guests further along the Grand Palladium beachfront.

It’s a short 5-10 minute walk away but definitely worth a visit. Take a stroll or flag down a buggy, it’s what Mexico is all about! Right?

5. Have A Spa Day at Zentropia Spa

Spending the day here was a personal highlight of mine. Switching off and enjoying some peace and tranquillity away from the bustle of the resorts.

As TRS guests, we had access to the beautiful Zentropia Spa. An adults-only area with a private swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath, hot jacuzzi and plunge tub. As well as access to high-end treatments like manicures, pedicures and massages.

Here you’ll also find a state-of-the-art fitness centre and health bar where you can order healthy juices, smoothies and snacks.

6. “Life Is A Cabaret, Old Chum”

…According to Liza Minelli!

I’d recommend going to the Chic Cabaret. It’s a fantastic experience, TRS Yucatan guests receive a complimentary ticket to the show for one night during their stay.

Not only do you get to see an incredible performance with some fabulous acts, but you also get a five-course dining experience which is a gastronomical delight! Fine dining at its peak, if you ask me.

What Are The Restaurants Like At TRS Yucatan?

My husband and I are real foodies. So when we discovered that all the restaurants at TRS Yucatan have a la carte options, we were over the moon.

Not only that, but we also had access to the other 14 restaurants across the site. As mentioned before, TRS guests can use the Grand Palladium facilities, including the additional restaurants!

The only downside to this is that we weren’t there long enough to try them all out!

6 restaurants at TRS Yucatan

The TRS section holds host to 6 exclusive a la carte restaurants:

  • El Gaucho – An Argentinian steakhouse offering the best cuts from the grill
  • Tentazione – Italian restaurant serving traditional dishes with a modern twist
  • La Boheme – French bistro serving delicious french classics (the french onion soup is a must!)
  • Helios – Ibiza inspired self-serve beachfront restaurant with various a la carte options
  • Capricho – International cuisine with self-serve themed stations and show cooking
  • Chic Cabaret & Restaurant – A fine-dining restaurant inside the onsite cabaretTRS guests have complimentary access for this included in their stay!

Our Favourite Restaurant

It’s hard to pick a favourite, but I think El Gaucho is mine. We must’ve eaten here at least twice during our 10-night stay at TRS Yucatan. The food was incredible. In fact, I probably had some of the best steak I’ve ever eaten!

All of the restaurants we visited also had vegetarian and vegan options as well as catering to food allergies and specific dietary requirements. We were asked this question before being seated every time we visited a restaurant.

Favourite Breakfast Spot

Our choice for breakfast was Helios. Every. Single. Day.

Helios is different in that it has the most incredible sea views. You can self-serve here too. I wouldn’t say it was a buffet as such, but each cuisine has a different station with live cooking taking place – you could even get tacos for breakfast. When in Mexico…

As well as the usual traditional cooked options, there was also a huge variety of alternatives including freshly made churros, sushi, patisseries, french toast and pancakes, cold cuts and fruit, and plenty more! You can also help yourself to fresh juices and smoothies, there’s a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa barYes Please! The variety kept us going for the entire duration of our stay and we tried something different every day.

What Is There To Do In Mexico?

It took a lot to drag me out of the resort during our stay. I was quite happy being stuck to my sun lounger for 10 days.

But whilst you’re in this beautiful bucket list destination, it helps to get out and explore. After all, there are so many incredible things to do in Mexico.

If you’re interested in the history of the Mayan’s, you could do a day trip to the ancient pyramids of Tulum and Chichen Itza. Maybe you’re the thrill-seeking type and fancy a day out at Xcaret, one of the greatest natural water parks in Mexico. Or maybe a night out at Mexico’s most famous nightclub, Coco Bongos is more your thing?

In fact , you have the opportunity to build an incredible 10-night itinerary in Riviera Maya alone.

If any of those things take your fancy, the reception staff can organise this for you and often have some amazing discounts when you decide to book!

Would I Stay Here Again?

Without question, yes.

Since my stay at this incredible 5* adults-only resort, nothing else has compared. And I mean that in the nicest way possible, as I have travelled to and stayed in some beautiful hotels and resorts. But the TRS Yucatan has set my standards so high ever since.

The people, the food, the drinks, the decor, the facilities – everything at this resort for me personally was a 10 out of 10 and I have only ever dreamed of going back since.
