What To Know When Packing For Morocco

When prepping for your short trip, it’s important to pack the right clothes. While some places in Morocco are more relaxed (such as Marrakech and Casablanca) it may be a better idea to pack some more conservative clothing. Especially if you’re planning on visiting more rural areas.

Make sure you keep swimwear to the beach and bathing areas, as this may not be accepted in the cities. It’s also important to bring more modest clothing if you’re thinking of visiting religious sites, as you may be denied entry if you are too exposed.

Consult your itinerary before packing. If you’re spending time at the beach, make sure to bring your swimwear. On the other hand, if you’re planning on getting involved in one of the many festivals in Morocco holds, it’s worth packing some modest but fun festival outfits.

In addition, it pays to think about what time of year you will be visiting as well. Tight clothing can make you warmer during the summer climates. Loose, conservative clothing may be the best option for packing for your long weekend in Morocco.

Where Should You Go For A Long Weekend In Morocco?

As we said above, we’d recommend Marrakech due to its boutique riads, labyrinthine bazaars, and world-renowned food. Additionally, its charming medieval alleys make it one of the most popular places to go for a long weekend in Morocco.

However, picking one of the key cities to visit in Morocco should be easy, as they all have wonderful things to offer. For example, the capital Rabat is one of the best choices for history lovers. Saturated with ancient culture, the Phoenicians, Romans and Venetians have all left their mark here.

On the other hand, Tangier and Casablanca are both port cities that still carry the glamour of those that flocked here in the 1940s. The former is known for stunning architecture like the Blue Medina, a wonderful restaurant scene, and for being encased by beautiful mountains.

Meanwhile, Casablanca’s diverse mix of cultures and architecture makes it a beautiful city to explore. Ensure you pick one city to visit during your long weekend, so that you may experience it in its entirety, rather than rushing yourself to see everything.

How To Plan Your Trip

Morocco has so much to offer. But now you know which city you want to visit, you can start mapping out an itinerary to ensure you see as much as possible on your long weekend.

For example, if you want to see landmarks all over your city of choice, you should group these together to cut down travel time and costs. Visiting close together landmarks on one day whilst going to the other side of the city on the other day is a great way to ensure you’re able to see everything you want to.

In addition, leave a bit of room in your itinerary for change and alterations. Morocco is known for its labyrinthian streets. If you factor in time to wander, you may find some hidden gems like boutiques, restaurants, cafes or hidden historical landmarks that other tourists won’t have seen.

Eat As Much As You Can

If you’re a foodie a long weekend in Morocco is one of the best things you can do. Local cuisine is not only incredibly diverse but intensely delicious.

The country’s geographical location and historical cultural exchanges mean you can expect Mediterranean, Arabic, Andalusian and Berber influences across the local fare. Nowhere is this melting pot of cultures seen more than in the produce sections in local markets. They display the best of Moroccan food – bright and fresh, it is a true culinary adventure.

Some of the dishes you need to try are Tagine, Couscous, Baklava, and Baba Ganoush, as well as a host of tea infusions. Each city has its own hidden secrets, so make sure you eat as much as you possibly can.
