class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Following on from the UK government&#8217;s recent traffic light\u00a0update, which saw the addition of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caribbeanwarehouse.co.uk\/blog\/2021\/06\/green-list-destinations-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\">Caribbean green list destinations<\/a> for the first time since the system was implemented. Caribbean Public Health official Dr Lisa Indar is shedding light on how the region is taking new steps to ensure the safety of tourists and residents.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a while since tourism has been allowed to stretch to the Caribbean. But the latest government announcement has put white-sand beaches and azure waters back on the menu for summer.<\/p>\n<p>But what have the Caribbean governments been doing to ensure a safe return to tourism on the enchanting islands?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28568\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28568\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28568\" src=\"https:\/\/blogimg.bluebaytravel.co.uk\/uploads\/2021\/07\/caribbean.jpg\" alt=\"Tourism could be returning to Caribbean beaches like this one\" width=\"800\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bluebaytravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/caribbean.jpg 800w, https:\/\/bluebaytravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/caribbean-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28568\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Through the implementation of the Traveller&#8217;s Health Program, tourism is returning to the Caribbean<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Caribbean_re-opens\"><\/span>Caribbean re-opens<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As of 30 June nine Caribbean destinations were added to the UK&#8217;s green travel list. <strong>Anguilla, Antigua &amp; Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat and Turks &amp; Caicos<\/strong> have all seen their status change from amber to green.<\/p>\n<p>With those changes coming into effect and more bookings for sun &amp; sea piling in, Dr. Indar tells us how the Caribbean has been prepping.<\/p>\n<p>Talking with <a href=\"https:\/\/travelweekly.co.uk\/destinations\/qa-caribbean-public-health-expert?fbclid=IwAR2VdrbRNtRCa308JJBoiIgOeU9W6OOYr_whhDMt98y7FOUpNMWzmG_l0kk\" target=\"_blank\">Travel Weekly<\/a>, off the back of the discussion with the UK trade this week, Dr. Indar made it clear the region&#8217;s approach to plotting a safe return for tourism has been a collaborative effort that saw the application of the<strong> brand new Traveller&#8217;s Health Programme (THP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Indar said:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #212426;\">One of the ways we have been implementing a safe return is through our regional tourism and health program.\u00a0\u00a0This is unique because it\u2019s the private sector, public tourism sector and a public health agency coming together to address health and safety and environmental threats to tourism by providing a real-time system of monitoring and response<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The result of the collaboration has seen the implementation of a stamp system called the &#8220;Traveller&#8217;s Health Assurance Stamp&#8221;. Whereby resorts and other tourism-driven businesses are awarded a stamp to signify they have passed the rigorous testing required for welcoming tourists in a safe and sensible manner.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_App\"><\/span>The App<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Along with the new stamping system <strong>the new CARPHA app has been made available<\/strong> which Dr Indar believe will act as a\u00a0&#8220;<span style=\"color: #212426;\">one-stop-shop to see the\u00a0list of the hotels and other tourism facilities that have the stamp&#8221;. The app will also make clear the differing measures for each country and any requirements around vaccinations and testing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The plan, going forwards, is that the app will also keep track of passenger ships that have gained stamp accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>The CARPHA app is <strong>available to download via the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/gb\/app\/caribbean-travelers-health-app\/id1518385740\" target=\"_blank\">Apple App Store<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=org.carpha.caritrvhealth&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=US\" target=\"_blank\">Google Play<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28570\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-28570 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogimg.bluebaytravel.co.uk\/uploads\/2021\/07\/app-1.jpg\" alt=\"a man holding an unlocked smartphone\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bluebaytravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/app-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/bluebaytravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/app-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a smartphone with apps The new app will act as a one-stop-shop for foreign guests in the Caribbean<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Blazing_a_trail\"><\/span>Blazing a trail<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There&#8217;s no doubt that the new app and Traveller&#8217;s Health Program are ensuring the Caribbean stays <strong>ahead of the game when it comes to ensuring the safety of its visitors and residents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But, as Dr Indar points out: &#8220;<span style=\"color: #212426;\">Globally, there have been more than 176 million cases [of COVID-19], but in the Caribbean, our numbers are low.\u00a0For Carpha\u2019s 26 member states (English-speaking countries), it\u2019s 202,688, and overall, across the Caribbean, it\u2019s 869,351.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She puts the region&#8217;s<strong> success in battling infections<\/strong> down to the strength of their proactivity:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #212426;\">&#8220;These low numbers are a reflection of early border closures, because there were countries that closed before Covid hit.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Time_to_travel\"><\/span>Time to travel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The combination of the Caribbean&#8217;s robust response to the pandemic and their tireless work since\u00a0to ensure a safe return of tourism\u00a0has yielded the best possible response.
