Phil Barratt

Head of Product & Contracting

I first began working in travel back in 1999, by chance more than design. Having worked in Leisure, Entertainments and Sales before that, I found myself working on the sales team at Gold Medal Travel and I was hooked. I loved this industry and the characters who worked in it. As my experience grew, I gravitated toward Product Contracting and Commercial roles and found my particular passion was for the Caribbean and Latin America. I find the people, the different languages and cultures fascinating, educating and humbling all at the same time. Travel and the experiences it’s afforded me have helped to make me the person I am and broadened my horizons. It’s in my blood now and I just love it.

In a nutshell.

  • Describe yourself in three words: Honest, Compassionate, Driven
  • Catchphrase: "How hard can it be?"
  • Likes: Boats and all waterborne activities. Good food & excellent wine
  • Hidden talent: Performing Arts - I’ve been known to tread the boards and belt out a tune here and there
  • Lesser-known fact about you: I used to be a Pontins Bluecoat
  • Best feeling in the world: Helping someone and knowing you’ve made a real positive difference to them
  • Favourite snack: Peanut Butter sandwich that someone else has made for me. That last part makes all the difference to the first bite.
  • What type of hat best describes your personality: A Panama – It’s quirky and old fashioned yet, very stylish and highly effective
  • If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why: The ability to know what people are thinking and feeling because with that, there are no barriers, anything is possible.
  • Best holiday you’ve ever had: My first ever trip overseas, a family holiday to Estartit on the Costa Brava in Spain. I was just 14 and it was a real “coming of age” trip.
