Having never experienced the Far East before I was eager to get to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is very westernised (unsurprising considering it was still under British Rule until 1997) but is still full of its own unique charms and charisma. If, like me, you're eager to explore exciting new cities then the Hong Kong metro system is a good way to get around, as it is cheap, clean, and easy to use.

Around the World in 13 Days: Icons in Oz

We spent our stay in Sydney at Langham Hotel, which we unanimously considered outstandingly beautiful. Tucked into the back streets not far from the infamous "The Rocks" shopping area, Langham Sydney was classic in design, with wide sweeping corridors, opulent décor, large rooms with smart, chunky furniture, and some great views over Darling Harbour.

Around the World in 13 Days: Downtown Discoveries and Star Spotting

Onward to downtown LA! We stayed in the Westin Bonaventure that looked like a scene from the Jetsons’ or Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. 4 circular columns stretch up the sides of the hotel, each having its own elevator that breaks through the roof of the lobby, giving you views over downtown LA from 33 stories high. Not your average elevator!
