New Zealand Road Trip 2011

# New Zealand Road Trip Diary 2011

In 2010 I traveled to New Zealand as a last minute holiday to visit my brother, who is currently living in Queenstown as a freelance film-maker and producer. Unfortunately, I only had seven days and so barely scratched the surface of this incredible country. The second I returned home, I knew I had to return the following year with more time to take in as much as possible. And the best way to do that? Road trip.

## Day One – Auckland to Mount Maunganui
Landed in Auckland, feeling worse for wear after an eventful last night out in Kuala Lumpur. Luckily, we breezed through passport and customs in a few minutes (a process that took over an hour the previous year). James was there to meet us at arrivals, and after a quick coffee we set off to pick up the hire car. A this point we had nothing planned. All we knew was that we had to get from Auckland to Queenstown within the next 14 days, whilst taking in as many sights as possible.

After sorting out all of the boring stuff with the rental company, we grabbed a map and decided a general direction to drive in.
